Windsurfing: Lepe Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: 15/20 Surf / Sea State: confused chop to flat Air Temperature: 20 Sea Temperature: 16 Weather: Sunny Max Speed: 22.7 (knots - unless stated otherwise) Distance Covered: 39 (Nautical Miles - unless stated otherwise)
After arriving at our campsite at Denny wood in the New Forest the day
before,after picking up a new fin,mast ext etc from 4 boards/Fawley we
headed for Lepe beach. This is a great spot to sail to the Isle of Wight and
you can park on the waters edge. With winds of 15 mph I rigged the 8.5 and
went out on the cat.I started with a quick 2 mile blast to the IOW landed
on the beach to say I had been then headed up the Bealieu River toward
Bucklers Hard-a very pretty place with loads of birds. Then it was some mega
broad reaches, first in the flat water of the river then the confused chop
of the Solent to visit the windsurfing shop at Calshot. It's just such a
great place to sail out in the Solent with hundreds of
yachts, ferries, container ships and liners. The beat back to Lepe was a
challenge as the wind had increased!!! A quick stop for something to eat
then rig the 6.6 and out on the xantos for another hour,so after 3hrs 41
mins out abit knackered but a great, great day.
